As we are new to the city of Palm Springs, California, we quickly need places to eat that remind us of home. One of our favorite cuisines is Mexican, so we asked a friend if he knew about some good Mexican restaurants in Palm Springs. He brought us to his favorite and immediately became our favorite as well.
Loco Charlie’s Mexican Grill sits quietly at the end of a busy but narrow street in part of the city’s working class. Food and drink are the reason why we land there almost once a week. The margaritas are the best we have eaten in a long time. Prepared with fresh lime juice and a good tequila, they are easy to drink before, during and after meals. The food is typically Mexican, with tacos, burritos, enchiladas and other standards.
Loco Charlie’s is not in an area frequented by tourists in Palm Springs, but it’s almost always crowded during lunch and dinner. Even in the afternoon, there are usually two busy tables. The locals know a great restaurant if they find it. And based on the number of returning guests, Loco Charlie’s is one of those excellent restaurants in Palm Springs. It starts with standard chips and sauce, which are very good. For an aperitif, we recommend “Fused Cheese with Chorizo”, melted cheese and chorizo, or “Pico De Gallo”, consisting of tomatoes, onions, coriander, cheese, and avocado. Our favorite dish is the triple burrito, which combines chicken, meat, and bacon (healthy!) Along with lettuce, tomato, onion, and cilantro. The burrito is covered with a large portion of melted cheese and some decorative splinters. Trickle Tacos are hand-stuffed fried corn tortillas with only meat filling. If you have room later, try the Tequila Flan. thin notes of tequila in a creamy flan. The prices are all very reasonable (if you do not have too many margaritas.
